Fellas I ran across a site yesterday for a game in dev called Cities XL. I guess their previous game was called CityLife. I had never heard of either. Y'all know anything about this game?

The Cities XL site has a forum or a link to a forum where they are asking for ideas from people for the game. The forum is not setup like any I have ever seen before but it is good and clever the way it is done. I have a real problem with the lag tho and it is hard to negotiate.

oops and more oops. First it looks like I made the previous post on the wrong thread. I was going to try and edit it but didn't see a button for that. Anyway, what I was going to add there is this:

I've signed up on the Cities XL forum and my handle is David. Dunno how that happened. When I signed up I was asked for my name and then user name. For some reason they used my real name when I posted instead of the user name.

Ah yes, I've heard of them. CityLife was supposed to be the competition for SimCity when it came out, but in truth it ended up being more like what SimCity Societies became (so I guess it was competition in a way tongue.gif)

But I haven't followed up much on CitiesXL, I don't really know much about it. Have you found anything out from their forum, Roads?

It is really hard to get a feel for how the game will be end up looking. Apparently the company doesn't even know yet. One thing that is encouraging tho, there are a considerable number of people (and I don't have a handle on how many) who want things like regional play - farms outside of cities, road connections and such.

I'm afraid it will get bogged down in too much detailed city simulation tho - that is, tracking how many citizens do what, when and where.

Hey guys, I just started a new topic for you since this is turning into CityLife discussion, to make it less confusing wink.gif

But anyway, I have heard of CityLife and heard that Cities XL was supposedly coming out. I thought CityLife was more based on the social aspect similar to Societies though, and kinda wonder if the next game is going to be too.

Yeah, I did some research on CityLife and came up with the same thing, Infernus. I think it was more based on the social aspect of a city, and keeping people happy and stuff like that, not so much the city building. It looked like an okay game though.

I couldn't find much on CitiesXL. Most of what is out there is all speculation, so who knows. I did only spent like 5 minutes looking though..

I have the address of the site I'm signed up at if y'all want me to post it.

There is a huge amount of info on the site and I've only read a small part of it. I have not gotten the impression at all that Cities XL is about pleasing groups. Of course it may be that part is just a given and is not what people are focusing on. I've been reading and posting mostly about agriculture and map size in relation to how big your working map will be, if you can build farms and infrastructure outside the city...

Oh and thanks Infernus for setting this thread up.

I don't mind if you post a link to the Cities XL site. smile.gif

If it's a good place to look up info on a game, it's fine. It's just personal sites and spammy stuff that's not good to put in posts. But reference links are always good.
